MIOM Photax I

French camera manufactured from 1936 to 1940, in thick bakelite.

This is the first Miom model. Format 6x9 on 620 film (no longer manufactured).

Note 2 particularities: the Photax name is not engraved on the body, neither on the front nor on the back.

The second peculiarity is that this is a single-format model, whereas the vast majority of these models are bi-format (6x9 and 4.5x6).

On the back, you can see that the 2nd red window is blocked.

It should also be noted that this camera comes with its boiled cardboard case, which is why it has torn in places, and why its former owner tried to sew it back on the side ( see photos ).

However, the front panel is also made of thick bakelite. This lends a “serious” look to this easy-to-use family device.

To put it into battery (in a shooting situation), simply turn the large metal helicoid on the front until it stops.

A rare camera in excellent condition, with no cracks or missing parts.

For collectors of French cameras, or collectors of bakelite cameras.
